SUMMERTIME IS HERE, TIME TO PREPARE

Summertime is in full swing and the heat can be unbearable for you and your pets. Here are a few things that can help you beat the heat:

  • Indoor Crates: Getting your dog an indoor crate is a great investment. It allows your dog to stay inside in the A/C without roaming around and tearing things up. The crate also helps with other areas like providing a safe space for the dog, helps with potty-training, and is great for traveling.

  • Self-Serve Water Bowl: A self-serve water bowl allows you to put water in a jug and your dog is able to have as much water as it needs. Depending on how much water your dog drinks, this can last you several hours or even several days.

  • Portable Water Bowl: On a walk and your dog needs water? Get a portable water bowl for your dog. One brand we carry, Handi Drink, provides clean water that your dog needs to stay active and refreshed during this heat.

  • Walk-About Tie-Out Cable: This rust and weather resistant cable will stand up to wear while keeping your dog safe in the yard. The Walk-About Tie-Out Cable allows your dog to roam around the yard, helps prevent them from escaping, and lets them come back to the house when they are ready to go inside.

  • Probiotics: Keeping your dog happy and healthy during this summer can also be achieved by probiotics. Some issues your dog may have are stomach issues, allergies, infections, poor bone health, and lethargy. Probiotics add more good bacteria with each dose and helps give your dog a new lease on life.

  • Fleas & Ticks: If your dog is outside relaxing in the sun, you will also need to keep an eye out for fleas and ticks. Flea and tick medicine come in collars your dog can wear and soft chews. While also beating the heat, you also need to keep an eye out for the basic health of your dog.

AT HOME

There are some supplies you will not need to buy. You can use some things you already have at home to keep your pet cool during the heat like:

  • Cool Water: Try to keep ice/cool water in your dog's bowl as much as possible, especially if you need to leave the house.

  • Shade: Providing your dog with shade while they are playing around outside is a necessity. You dog will need to cool off after they have playtime or else you could end up at the vet for heat exhaustion.

  • Brushing your Dog: To help beat the heat at home, you can also brush their fur. A lot of dogs put on a "winter coat" and shed it overtime. To help speed up the process and help your dog stay cool, brush them to help get rid of the extra coat.

  • Develop an Exercise Plan: While your pet is beginning to acclimate to the new season, you may need to develop an exercise plan that will get them safely through the hotter summer months.
